FEMI KUTI TO DROP SINGLE, ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti has released a single from his upcoming album titled “One People One World”. The song which premiered on Billboard earlier today is the first single off the singer’s upcoming tenth (10th) studio album of the same name which will be released on the 23rd of February 2018. The track is classic Femi Kuti, with resounding horns and heavy percussion layered on lyrics that touch on the themes of racism and hatred while calling for unity and peace among peoples of the world.
The song, with its call to set aside differences and work towards a more peaceful world, is one that closely follows his own vocation as an activist; Kuti serves as a spokesperson for UNICEF advocating for children’s rights and is a promoter of HIV/AIDS prevention and education. He and his band, Positive Force, recorded much of the album in Lagos. The Album will be released and distributed in Nigeria by Chocolate City Music.
ABOUT FEMI KUTI Born Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti on June 12, 1962 in London. The Four time Grammy Nominated artist grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, where, at 15, he started playing saxophone in his father’s band, Egypt 80. In 1986 he formed his own band, the Positive Force. He came into the limelight with hits songs like “Wonder Wonder” (1994) and “Beng Beng Beng” (1998). He has received Grammy nominations (2003, 2010, 2012 & 2013) album “No Place for my Dreams”. In 2012 he was inducted into the Headies Hall of Fame (the most prestigious music awards in Nigeria).
Femi is global Ambassador for Amnesty International, a spokesperson for UNICEFs crusade for the rights of children and an advocate for HIV/AIDS education and prevention. Femi is recognized as a community leader and an inspiration for African resistance to the remnants of colonial mentality and economic hardship. -ENDS-
